May 2023 Astrology Forecast, Energy, and Transits

May 2023 Astrology Forecast, Energy, and Transits Girl and Her Moon

Whether its within religion, philosophy, mysticism, science, native cultures, ancient civilisations or more, the idea that we are nature has been a part of our understanding of what it means to be human for as long as we know.

The study of the stars and our connection to them dates back thousands of years, for it was understood that as we observe nature, we observe ourselves.

Welcome to May.

It’s a stripping back to reveal truth. A returning home. A realignment of what is real, what matters, what is uniquely for us. A pulling back the veil of outside noise, of illusion, of programming and patterns to remember what sits in our hearts. It’s a doorway inviting us to rekindle the connection to unique song. And it’s a slowing down. A reconsidering. A pondering.

As the month continues and we step out of the Eclipse Portal and Mercury Retrograde and into new lands, it’s a sweet, sweet support from existence to begin moving from this truth, from this home, from this unique song that is ours to sing and dance to and to begin building our lives in a secure, sustained, and pleasure-filled way.

May meets us in within the Eclipse Portal. A time of change, realignment, transformation, destiny, and purpose. A time of high energy. Heightened awareness. A speeding up of consciousness. And, it meets us within Mercury Retrograde. A slowing down. A reviewing. A renewing. A step back so that we may realign before we step forward once again after the 15th.  May initiates a 5-month long Pluto Retrograde, where we are guided to journey deep into the underworlds of ourselves, to bring love to our shadow, and acceptance to the discarded pieces of ourselves.

The highlight of May comes into our lives on the 5/6th. It’s a Scorpio Lunar Eclipse that brings closure to a journey of transformation we have been walking for 18 months. What will this final release bring you? Who are you ready to lovingly say goodbye to? A Taurus New Moon sweeps us out of Eclipse Season and whispers of sweet new beginnings and cosmic support, while the exciting movement of Jupiter brings expansion, growth, and luck to our sense of security, pleasure, self-worth, and long-term building of our dreams.

Your medicine for this month? Play. A 3 month in numerology asks us to express, express, create, play, and remind yourself of what magic is to you – and to actively seek it out. What can bring you home to your truth more than play?

May 2023 Astrology

1 May – 11 October: Pluto Retrograde

Read the full Pluto Retrograde blog here.

Joining Mercury, Pluto enters its five-month retrograde on 1 May 2023 where it will remain until October 11, 2023. A slow-moving planet, Pluto spends between 11 – 30 years in each zodiac sign and retrogrades once a year.

It has been theorized that as we move further away from the Earth in our Solar system, the more complex, misunderstood, mysterious and subtle the astrological invitations and frequencies of the planets are. Pluto, named after the Roman God of the underworld and sitting at the edge of our known Solar system, is no different.

Unlike Mercury, Pluto’s influence cannot be grasped only with the mind. It is the process of death, rebirth, transformation, power, and the unconscious. It represents the unseen, the mystery, and the hidden aspects of self and humanity. It is the deep reserves within us that are not often journeyed, the shadows, the darkness, and the vulnerable.

Pluto entered Aquarius on March 23, 2023 and was a highly anticipated and influential shift in our cosmos, as Pluto hadn’t been in Aquarius for over 200 years. Aquarius is evolution. It is future oriented, independent, and innovative. Aquarius is liberation, progress, freedom, and technology, concerned with the progress and equality of the collective.

Pluto will spend just over a month of its retrograde in Aquarius before it dips back into Capricorn, where it was from 2008 – 2023. While retrograde in Aquarius however, we are invited to be with our relationship to freedom, independence, power, and fear – both in ways that we are conscious of and comfortable with, and where there is discomfort, fear or resistance.

Pluto represents aspects of humanity that for many are uncomfortable. To journey through one’s inner shadow and face what sits within the discarded parts of ourselves isn’t easy. It is loving, however. And it is deeply healing. Pluto and Scorpio are the missing pieces of the puzzle that bring us home to the wholeness of our human experience.

This retrograde invites us to be vulnerable. To peel back the layers and sit with what lies underneath. To witness parts ourselves we have disowned and cast into the shadow – all so that we may reach into acceptance, piece by piece reclaiming ourselves.

As Pluto beings its retrograde, allow the cyclic journey of your becoming and unbecoming to be what it is. Transformation, healing, growth, and evolution cannot be controlled, planned, or mentally grasped. It is journeyed, felt – and often, feels as if it is something that happens to us. We are beginning a five-month journey of transforming themes around freedom, power, and independence – meeting all that is rooted in anything but truth, so that we may meet what is truth.

6 May: Scorpio Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

Read the full Lunar Eclipse blog here.

May 6, 2023, brings us our second Eclipse of 2023 and represents the culmination of a 18 month chapter – a chapter of deep transformation, rebirth, transmutation, and evolution.

A Lunar Eclipse is an ending and a release. It is the closing of the door before another opens. Meeting us when the Earth sits between the Sun and Moon in perfect alignment, Eclipses also communicate with the Lunar Nodes, which in astrology represent purpose, destiny, and awakening.

Scorpio, ruled by Pluto in Astrology, holds similar invitations to the Roman God of the Underworld. As an archetype it can’t live on the surface of life. It needs to strip back, to go beneath, to venture through the hidden darkness where others fear to journey. It is concerned with truth, revealing all that cannot survive in the face of truth so that it may be transformed.

Exposing and revealing, this week’s Scorpio Lunar Eclipse journeys deep into what is means to be human. It sits with our emotions, brings to the surface our fears, mirrors where we have been clinging and what we try to control. It illuminates what sits within us that is not real, so that we may continue to inch towards what is.

7 May – 5 June: Venus in Cancer

Venus is found in the way we love, receive love, witness beauty, create art, embody our worth, approach abundance, care for ourselves, revel in romance, and so much more. A Roman Goddess in mythology representing beauty, love, prosperity, and good fortune, in ancient times, she was seen as essential to the balance of life and was often prayed to for military victory, blissful marriages, fertility and prosperity.

In Astrology, Venus spends approx. 30 days in each zodiac. As she moves through the 12 signs, all that she embodies becomes expressed through the lens of that particular sign. Within some zodiacs there is an ease to her expression, where it’s harmonious, heightened, and supported. Within others, her spark is harder to find. Within all, however, are unique gifts, invitations, self-reflection, and insights.

On May 7 2023, Venus will move into Cancer, where she will remain until June 5 2023.

Cancer as a zodiac sign is often seen as the mother archetype. It is tender, safe, secure, nurturing, healing, and intuitive. Cancer, a water sign, represents our emotions and our safe space in the world. It speaks to our familial and ancestral roots, our home, and our loved ones.

There is an ease to Venus as she journeys through the waters of Cancer. Here, we find compassion, healing, romance, and belonging and acceptance within the family. We are gifted with safety and comfort within the home and other familiar spaces. And, beauty has an opportunity to find us. Art reaches deep into our emotions, our body, and our felt experience.

Venus in Cancer holds us in safety throughout the transition and awakening of the Sun conjunct Uranus a few days after. Venus in Cancer offers a soothing support, a comfort space, a loving whisper. It reminds us that we are held, inviting beauty into our hearts and ease in receiving the blessings that are presenting themselves.

As if a safety net, allow the support of Venus in Cancer to hold you through your changes, your breaking open, and your new perspectives and insights. There is much moving, flowing, and shifting in our cosmos both in this week and the larger timeline that this week sits within.

9 May: Sun conjunct Uranus

Not only the centre of our Solar System, the Sun is also the centre of the Self in Astrology. It is our core, our Spirit, and the pulse that offers us life. As it meets, or conjuncts, planets in our cosmos, it offers that same life-giving Spirit bringing a spark, a force, and aliveness to whoever it comes into contact with. Themes of the planet close by are strengthened, supported, and expressed with ease.

Uranus in Astrology is connected to liberation, freedom, authenticity, and awakening. In mythology, Uranus is the personification of heaven and the ruler of the Universe, its influence is sharp, influential, and impactful. It lights up the path of where we are going, representing a forward-thinking and freedom-filled direction for humanity. When Uranus is expressing itself strongly in our cosmos, we are invited into a breaking open of what is present in service to creating space for the new.

When supported by the Sun in a conjunction on 9 May, we are presented with new ways of thinking, seeing, knowing, and acknowledging. We are offered a new perspective, one that is outside of the box. One that comes from the heavens themselves. One that desires to usher us into a new way. One that might surprise us.

On this day, we are gifted with a moment in time to receive a new perspective. As if lifted far above the busy tides, we are offered a still moment to put it all on pause, and peek through a new lens to see ourselves and our lives through.

15 May: Mercury Direct

Mercury began its retrograde in Taurus on 21 April and will station direct on 15 May. Throughout this retrograde there was an invitation to internally explore our relationship with slow and steady creation, our values, relationship with our body, sense of security, and self-worth. It was a time of reflection, realignment, reconsidering, and recommitting. It was a sacred pause to allow for the integration of our journey so far.

Retrogrades invite greater insights, perspectives, and self-awareness. They welcome wisdom and deeper self-knowing, and they do this so that once we begin to move forward, we can do so with greater clarity, intention, and purpose.

As Mercury stations direct in Taurus, allow your perspectives to update. What did this sacred pause reveal to you? What entered your awareness? What did you find yourself questioning? Or revisiting? There is a forward momentum within us as Mercury too moves forward. This is our invitation to bring all that we were reconsidering and revisiting in our minds and take physical action with it.

16 May: Jupiter enters Taurus

For the first time in 12 years, Jupiter enters Taurus on May 16, 2023, initiating a new one-year chapter in our lives.

There is a flow that Jupiter brings – a downstream river taking us directly into bliss and abundance and supporting us with wisdom and generosity each moment of the journey. As we say yes to the invitations of this planet – doors open, ease unfolds, and that downstream river gifts us with a leisurely float into the realisations of our dreams.

Jupiter has spent the last 12 months in Aries, where we were invited to plant new seeds, take bold steps, and initiate new ideas. As it shifts into Taurus where it will remain into May 2024, the focus shifts from planting seeds, to nurturing them. What do your dreams need in order to flourish? What environment needs to be cultivated for the sustained blossoming of your seeds?

Taurus is a fixed Earth sign. It is grounding and stabilising, concerned with the natural and material world and moving at a pace that is patient, persistent, and steady. Taurus is here to create long-lasting beauty and fall in love with the entire journey of that creation.

While the pace may slow down as Jupiter moves from Aries into Taurus, it become more sustainable. Over the last 12 months we were gifted with the sparks of Aries passion to initiate ideas that were on our hearts, and now, we are invited to make them real. While Aries exists in potential and ideas, Taurus grounds and physicalises. What is ready to be planted into the foundation of your life? What is ready to become real? We are gifted with commitment and persistence while Jupiter is in Taurus – what do you choose to pour this energy into?

While dancing with Taurus, we also enter the lands of finances, skills, and value. This is a beautiful time to be present with your current state of and relationship to your finances, and your long term goals with money. If there is a path, skill, career, training, or qualification that has been calling your name, stepping onto that path throughout this year long chapter is like stepping into that downstream river.

19 May: Taurus New Moon

Read the full New Moon blog here.

As we journey through the world of Taurus Season, as Mercury moves direct in Taurus, and Jupiter brings blessings into this same Earth Sign, we are gifted with a Taurus New Moon on 19 May, 2023.

Our first lunation post Eclipse Season, we truly have stepped into new lands. Eclipse Season, from April to May 2023, was filled with transformation, release, and change, and this new Moon is a coming together of planets, energies, and invitations that support the cultivation of this new land upon which we have arrived.

As the Moon begins her new cycle in the grounded sign of Taurus, we are invited into new beginnings, clarity, stability, slow and committed movement, and the consistent building of our dreams. As an Earth sign, Taurus is rooted in our tangible reality. It wants to feel, see, touch, smell, and hear its desires. It wants to be present in the lived experience of its imaginations, purpose, ideas, and dreams.

Just as Mercury and Jupiter invite, this new Moon is a beautiful open door into building our lives on purpose.

20 May – 10 July: Mars in Leo

It’s a day after the New Moon and Mars makes its shift into Leo on 20 May 2023 where it will remain until 10 July 2023.

Mars is our warrior planet. It represents our passion and drive, motivation, and strength. It is the fire that propels us forward in the direction that is calling our name, urging us to move towards our goals, take steps, and make the changes that we know are for us.

Leo is a creative, courageous, enthusiastic, and expressive sign. It is royal, proud, determined, and loyal. Also a fire sign, it moves and creates with passion, placing its entire heart into each endeavour taken. Like all planets, Mars’ fire is expressed with ease and support in some zodiac signs, and more difficultly in others. While in Leo there is a compatibility, an excitement, a supportive relationship. Both Mars and Leo are here to express and create, leap into passions, and confidently follow their dreams.

While Mars is in Leo for the next ~ 7 weeks, we are invited to say take initiative, to pour our heart, energy, time and passion into the path that calls us forward, and to be bold in our expression, creativity, joy and lives.

21 May – 21 June: Gemini Season

The Sun moves through twelve zodiac signs in twelve months. It begins in Aries, enters Taurus, and then arrives in Gemini, our third zodiac sign. As the Sun is the centre of our Solar System, it similarly holds a key role in Astrology. It is our life force, our vitality, and our spirit. As the Sun journeys through the cosmos meeting each zodiac in our skies, the very life force that moves through each of us shifts to be expressed with the essence of that sign.

In Taurus Season, we moved and experienced life through the essence of Taurus – slow and steady building, beauty, embodiment, slower movement, occupied with the tangible. As the Sun shifts into Gemini, it’s as if that very spirit that sparks life within us takes on the invitations and interests of this zodiac sign, and in a way, we become the living and breathing embodiment of Gemini for the next ~ month.

There is a certain playfulness that Gemini holds as an archetype. It’s a curiosity and thirst for mental exploration that could never be fully quenched. It’s seeing the world through the eyes of an excited child. It’s an eagerness to mentally take in all it can, so that it may then share this information in as many directions as possible through the magic of the spoken or written word. It gathers and disperses. Collects and shares. Knowledge moves freely through this dynamic sign which acts as a clear vessel.

Gemini is a mutable air sign, and just as air moves quickly, freely, and without bounds, as does Gemini. The invitations present within our minds throughout this season desire to take us in every direction, any direction, without bounds, free to roam. We may be gifted with new interests, exciting new topics to learn and explore. Books, courses, conversations, classes, writing, speaking, new experiences, different people – life is a playground for the mind, and Gemini wants to take full advantage of that playground.

Just like air can clear stagnant energy and bring in fresh new life, as can Gemini. Gemini Season offers the gift of clearing what may feel dormant, lifeless, stuck, or simply ready to leave, like a beautiful gush of air moving through a building. Gemini Season invites us to air out our lives, and to disperse new energy throughout, and it does so through that very curiosity and excitement for all that is available to learn and share. It brings in new life by sparking interest.

Words are a gift. They are one of the many ways we make sense of the world and our experience of it. Communication is a gift. It is one of the many ways we can then share our understanding and excitements of the world, and it is one of the ways we form connection.

Gemini is like a glue that binds us all together through those very words. It is the glue that allows us to mentally understand our human experience. It connects. It brings the dots together. Both in our social life with one another, and in our minds. It pulls information and knowledge from everywhere it possibly can, taste testing the vast and opportune rich invitations that life presents to then bring it all together on one plate of understanding.

Gemini is play. Play lightens. Laughter moves energy. Excitement sparks. Joy cracks open what is stuck. Curiosity moves us. Interest turns on the light in a once dark room. This week initiates a season of this very lightness, movement, clearing, play, curiosity, and spark. Like that gush of wind, it is inviting us to let go of what feels stuck, and welcome in whatever may be next for us. Like the changing of seasons, it is inviting us to transmute. Gemini holds the essence of change because it is movement itself. This season reminds us that we are malleable, in constant movement, changing shape, form, interests, identities. We are that very air – free, changeable, ungraspable, in motion, moving wherever we are guided.

Throughout this season, allow your curiosity to be your north star. Allow play to be your most healing and nurturing state of being. And, lean into the beauty of words as if they were your most nourishing meal. Communicate. Share yourself. Share what excites you. Witness the excitement and insights that others have to share, and let those very interactions change you. Let all that is available within the world around you, change you.

Enjoy your May, with love.
