September brings the beginning of Libra Season – the same day as the Autumnal Equinox where light and dark come into balance and day and night sit equal to one another.

A day filled with divine paradox yet complete equilibrium. As Libra Season begins and the Equinox invites us into its arms, we are handed two opposing states of being and are reminded that life, just like us, just like this day, can hold two possibilities, two states, two truths, two directions together at once and not just coexist, but in truth, need each other for both to come alive.

Just as light cannot exist without dark, and self cannot exist without the other. On this day, we are reminded that nothing exists in isolation.

This is Libra.

When is Libra Season?

Entering the constellation of Libra on 23 September and continuing into 23 October, the Sun in astrology represents the centre of Self. It is our experience. Our life force. Our spirit.

And as it journeys through the 12 zodiacs it brings these parts of us with it and throughout this season, we too are invited over this next month to step into the essence that is Libra. To become it, learn from it, and begin to experience the world through its lens.

Sometimes it is within another the words we are ready to hear, the softness we are ready to receive, the perspective ready to crack us open, and the mirror through which to see ourselves more clearly.

Sometimes it is within offering love to another that we gain access to it ourselves.

We cannot not be in relationship. We are made better with those around us.

With partnership and harmony central themes to its purpose and intentions, Libra has an intuitive ability to sense the balance, or imbalance, in the energy around it.

Whether in a conversation, a relationship, an outfit, within the home, a piece of art, or the workplace, Libra is always intuitively aware of what the other, others, or something, needs in any moment to arrive in a state of peace, balance, beauty, and fairness – and can then become, or offer, that very thing.

Libra and the Attunement to the Other

When we are still learning to work with and access the gifts of Libra, we may first find ourselves stumbling around in the lower possibilities of the archetype while we find our way.

For Libra this can look like its devotion to short term harmony placed before long-lasting harmony, driven by a fear of discord, imbalance, unpleasantries, of conflict.

A fear that can often come back to a lack of safety within the body as the self, Libra and often learns to read the other before learning how to read the self.

To read the other means we know what is needed in that moment to create a sense of balance, or a feeling of safety, within the interaction and environment and therefore ourselves, whether it is the most supportive, authentic, or aligned direction for the long term or not.

To learn to tune into the other before tuning into the self can create a distance between own needs, desires, and preferences.

And for this, we turn to Libra’s opposite sign, Aries.

The Axis of Aries and Libra

In Astrology, each zodiac exists on an axis in partnership with its opposite sign. Just as Libra teaches us, these signs in seeming opposition find themselves as partners, both needing the other to come alive.

Love, when surrendered to, can take over us, taking us into depths beyond our rational mind and throwing us out of balance. And in those depths are immense healing and catalysing opportunities to come home to ourselves and all of life.
