Astrology is one of my favorite tools to use to access my inner power & resources because it helps me ask myself better questions. Tuning into the stars isn’t just horoscopes or even readings, its self-illumination through the language of our soul.
It simultaneously holds a link between our daily micro interactions and a panned out, macro perspective that opens us up to seeing life’s poetic interplay of experiences offering evolutionary growth to our souls, the only real desire of the soul.
Studying astrology is a path of self-study ultimately leading towards self-mastery and empowerment. Mastering the self is a dedication to understanding the fundamental nature of life, our role in it, and the process of universal growth. Astrology outlines this pathway and gives moment-to-moment guidance to help you illuminate your process back to your home within.
Astrology’s power to transcend all times and all spaces and any cultural relativity is partly because its roots are found in the Hermetic teachings, a non-Christian lineage of Gnosticism; the pursuit of empirical knowledge pertaining to spiritual mysteries.
What is Hermeticism?
Hermeticism dates back to the the 1st and 2nd centuries AD and was retained in the Byzantine collections of the Corpus Hermetica a compilation of letters from the master, Hermes Trismegistus to his disciples. It also shows up in the Nag Hammadhi library in 4th century Egypt and the Emerald Tablets of Thoth. There’s much debate about whether Hermes was a single person or more of an archetype that many people contributed to its development.
In the Greek lineage he was known as Hermes and in the Egyptian, he was known as Thoth. In both cultures he was known to master of the arts, sciences, the mind, and magic.
Hermeticism was re-discovered in the Fifteenth century when it was translated into Latin by Cosimo de Medici. Medici’s translations highly influenced the Italian Renaissance’s thought and culture including Leonardo Da Vinci. At the turn of the 20th century, a mysterious group called “The Three Initiates” published The Kybalion a condensed version of Hermeticism which has emblazoned much of modern New Age thought and is becoming more widely validated through quantum science.
Today, Hermes Trismegistus’s mastery is embodied in Astrology, as Mercury, the Ruler of Gemini and the 3rd House.
The 7 Hermetic Laws
Inside the Flow with the Moon Membership in February, we will be doing a mastermind workshop diving into these natural laws as a foundation to understanding our astrology charts.
In the coming months, we will build on this foundation to illuminate the movements of your chart; your personal evolutionary journey. I can’t wait to dive in with you but for now, let’s open up the discussion with the 7 Laws.
The principle of mentalism. The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental.
The principle of correspondence. “As above, so below; as within, so without.” This principle embodies the truth that there is always a correspondence between the laws and phenomena of the various planes of being and life.
The principle of vibration. Nothing rests; everything moves; everything vibrates.
The principle of polarity. Everything is dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.
The principle of rhythm. Everything flows, out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates.
The principle of cause and effect. Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause; everything happens according to law; chance is but a name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation, but nothing escapes the law.
The principle of gender. Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes.
