2023 Mercury Retrogrades
December 29, 2022: Retrograde at 24* Capricorn
January 18, 2023: Direct at 08* Capricorn
April 21: Retrograde at 15* Taurus
May 14: Direct at 5* Taurus
August 23: Retrograde at 21* Virgo
September 15: Direct at 08* Virgo
December 13: Retrograde at 08* Capricorn
January 1, 2024: Direct at 22* Sagittarius
We enter and exit this year with Mercury Retrograding through Capricorn, the land of the sea goat where spirit and earth are one. In fact, all of our retrogrades will occur in earth signs this year as we re-educate ourselves on the process of manifesting spirit on the earth plane.
Last year in 2022, all retrogrades were in air.
We were reconsidering our relationships, communities, and associations to see if they were still aligned with where are future is taking us. These adjustments may have had us break outmoded associations and brought us into contact with new relationships centered around what we truly value.
As we enter 2023, with Mercury Retrograding in Capricorn, we’ve been working on recalibrating our inner voice and where we derive our authority, what brings us security, and how we need to assert our boundaries to ensure our safety. This time is offering us the space to analyze the traditions we’ve relied upon and how their boundaries have either wounded our identities or facilitated a pathway for us to share our gifts with society and to be met.
Throughout this year, our earth retrogrades are supporting us to stabilize our focus. There’s a lot of fire energy rising, percolating new frontiers on the horizon, but how do we ground those brilliant plans into our reality? How do we navigate our dreams and desires so they don’t just stay in our dreamscapes and instead give ourselves the opportunity to live our dreams?
Mercury retrograde says, “it’s time to take a more conservative approach that adjusts not our dreams but the process we take to actualize them.”
If you’ve been looking for deeper security in your life, you can actually thank all these retrogrades as they enlighten you to the pitfalls in your process that have stood in your way of manifesting your desires!
You see, retrogrades are part of the feminine principle of the creation process.
We can’t just go blazing forward all the time as the masculine principle prefers. We grow two steps forward and one step back. The step back is about integration!
There is an inherent insecurity in the future, what is unknown. So we try it out, we feel it out, and then we come back into the security of what was, to process it all and only then, move forward from a place of deeper self-knowing, deeper inner security.
Retrogrades are all about R-E words — reassess, reconsider, rethink, redo, recommit, and so on.
Earth teaches us all about this process. It shows us the value of slow and steady creations where we don’t force progress but allow it to naturally arise through a well contemplated structure that was made for its thriving.
It teaches us what trust really means. When we trust in the Universe delivering a relationship that is in our highest good, or that job, or that house, or that—fill in the blank—then we behave very differently than when we are grasping, afraid it will pass us by. Do the foundational work required this year to build sound internal and external structures in our lives rooted in our values, especially while the North Node finishes its time in Taurus until July.
We have several outer planets changing signs this year — Pluto entering Aquarius, Saturn entering Pisces, the Nodes shifting to Aries & Libra, Jupiter entering Taurus — which is to say, our old reality is dissolving and a new story is just beginning to emerge offering us many years of enjoyment to come.
Mercury tells us, it’s not just about what the new dream is but also the approach we take to build it!
New dreams are best built on the wisdom derived from the past. Make sure to set a sturdy foundation for your new reality that is rooted in the lessons learned from your past endeavours so history doesn’t have to repeat itself in your life. Allow Mercury, the eternal student to teach you how to master the earth plane and free yourself from errors past. Review with curiosity to see what has worked that is important to carry forward. Not everything that has been done needs to be thrown out.

Let us remember our humanity and build your systems incorporating the reality of human error so that their occurrence doesn’t ruin our day. Allot enough time in the process so that a graceful approach informs how you build your dreams allowing these states to become an accessible norm of ease rather than hustle being our baseline.

And then as we close the year out with Capricorn again in December, we give way to a reflective moment assessing the integrity of what you built over the course of the year.

Our patience, determination, and commitment to our dreams will be tested this year but let these tests show us the process of gracefully living the dream, for a long time to come.
