Lessons from 2018 that I am taking into 2019

Sitting here marvelling at the magic that is life – the magic that occurred in 2018 and the magic I know is coming in 2019.

I suggest you do the same: M A R V E L.

Reflect on your year with gratitude for the good and the bad. The lessons, the love, the people, those little moments that took you somewhere – all of it. Reflect so you can move forward into 2019 with gratitude, clarity and intention.

I’ve made a list of things I have decided to take into 2019 with me, things that I have learned and practised in 2018. I hope it can help you reflect, marvel, and feel so confident within yourself that 2019 is going to be an absolutely extraordinary year – that there is no way it won’t be. I hope you enjoy ♡

LESSONS I AM TAKING WITH ME INTO THE NEW YEAR:

♡♡♡♡

  1. Knowing my worth and only accepting that which matches it

I have spent the latter half of this year coming to the harsh reality that I have spent most of my life trying to shrink myself. Being quiet, small, not wanting to be a burden on others. I have been selling myself short and accepting ‘whatever I can get’, what I thought I deserved – not seeing how worthy and special I am by just being me.

In 2019 I choose me. I see my worth. I am a living, breathing, feeling and thinking human being and for those reasons alone, I AM worthy, and I matter.

I am no longer accepting things as they come. I am no longer accepting anything with the thought that ‘I will take what I can get’. No. I am only accepting things that are up here in value with me. I am only accepting things that will help me grow. I am only accepting things that bring love, happiness, motivation and high vibrations into my life.

Anything that brings any sort of negativity is gone – for good. And this includes people.

  1. The practice of Gratitude

A simple, simple thing, that has completely changed my life.

I’m sure you’ve read about it, watched videos about it, listened to podcasts about it, or have even taken the plunge and started this practice yourself. The practice of gratitude is so underrated. If someone told me that listing a few things per day that I am grateful for would change my life, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. Actually, I didn’t believe them, until I started.

Each morning after I meditate, I let my mind wonder into all the amazing things that I am blessed with in this world and my life. Whether it be something so big like the fact that I am even alive on this beautiful planet (I mean, how fucking lucky) or something as small as birds and the way they glide through the air, or the chocolate waiting for me in my fridge, this practice has made me feel like the luckiest person to exist.

I promise you, if you are consciously expressing gratitude daily, you will not be the same person you are two months from now. You are working with an ancient spiritual law: the more you are grateful for, the more you will have.

“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness” – Dalai Lama

  1. Flowing, letting go

In 2018 I started my first business. I had plans, very specific plans. I had expectations, time frames, schedules, all coming from a place of fear.

It was this business that led me to truly finding myself, the start of my ‘spiritual awakening’ so to speak. This is because my business wasn’t doing as well as I wanted it to, and it didn’t matter how much tighter I gripped. It didn’t matter how much more I tried to control. It didn’t matter how many books I read, podcasts I listened to or videos I watched. I was trying so hard to make something happen before I was ready. I was crippled with fear and disappointment. After spending much time searching externally for what I needed for my business to thrive, I was forced to look within. This is where I came to the realisation that I cannot control things, especially when coming from a place of fear.

I needed to trust. Trust that everything is happening exactly as it should. Trust that whatever it supposed to happen, will. Trust in the divine timing of the universe.

I no longer force things. I now follow what feels right. I have taken big risks, done things that have made me question my insanity (actually though, lol), but I have done these with trust.

Trusting the universe has led me here, to this perfect moment. Doing exactly what I want to be doing.

I hope you can also let go and trust in 2019. There is no need to force things. If it is right, you will feel it.

  1. “In between” times – losing yourself

I was meditating, I was feeling more me than I had ever known, I was so happy, every day. But then I wasn’t, and I felt guilty for it.

I had made the decision myself that life is as I choose it to be. I choose my happiness, I choose to see the beauty in every day and I have control over my emotions.

But then I couldn’t, and I didn’t. I have now come to know these periods as ‘in-between times’.

I now ask myself:

  • How will I identify the good if I have not seen the not-so-good?
  • How will I understand others if I have not been in their position?
  • How will I learn if there are no hard lessons?
  • How will I overcome obstacles if there are no obstacles?

My heart gets stronger every time I go through these ‘in-between times’. My intuition gets stronger every time. I am more grateful every time. I level up. Every. Time.

Do not punish yourself for being human. You can’t always be on the ball. Appreciate these times as much as you can while knowing they are not permanent. It is you learning, it is you breaking away and it is you making space for something bigger, better and oh so fulfilling.

I can and will always come back to me, to my heart of love and gratitude. And so will you, every time.

  1. Authenticity changes the world

“Be so completely yourself that others feel safe to be themselves too”.

I love quirky people, I love ‘weird people’, I love those people that don’t care about fitting in because it makes me feel comfortable. It makes me feel free to be me, it’s almost as if it gives me permission.

By being you, you are completely changing the world. You are telling others that it is okay to step away from the majority. You are telling them that there is nothing better than being themselves. You are inspiring others.

If you are one of these beautiful people, thank you. If you are like me, you are still stepping into your authenticity, and I hope you are being unapologetic about this.

I ask you for 2019, be you, be different, be brave, tell and show others it is okay to be whatever and whoever they need to be. Let’s change the world.

  1. Life is magic once you decide it is

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” —Albert Einstein, theoretical physicist

Whenever anyone tells me about any sort of accomplishment, anything they did, saw, felt that day, whatever it may be – I make it my purpose to give it all the attention it deserves. I make it my purpose to be so excited about this news. I make it my purpose to acknowledge the magic and beauty of this moment and this person.

I also do the same for myself.

Anything I do, feel, realise, see, is absolute magic. I know it is because I decide it is.

If I see a dog down the street, I will let it make my day! Because dogs are absolute magic! If I finish a blog, I let myself feel proud. If I see a friend, I let myself marvel in the magic that is friendship and love.

Let yourself believe: LIFE IS MAGIC.

2019 is going to be FILLED with magic.

And I am so excited.

  1. The little things A R E  L I F E

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things.” —Robert Brault, author.

I’m currently sitting in my office, in my new apartment with an amazing view of Melbourne, Australia. I have just been to the gym with my love, I’ve meditated, juiced some vegetables and had breakfast. There is nothing big about this morning or this moment, but this morning and this moment is everything. If I didn’t stop and reflect on these small things making up my life right now, I would not be this grateful. If I didn’t take the time to pause, breathe, be in the moment, whether it be small or big, I would miss all these amazing things that are making up my life.

I can absolutely be guilty of this though… I can get caught up in life. I get stuck in the expectations, stress about the future, the life outside of me that I have fought to hard to distance myself from. I get sucked in there sometimes. But it’s the little moments that pull me out. I CHOSE to go all in with amazement at these little moments. I let them blow me away to the point where I feel I will explode with gratitude.

This is what I am taking into 2019. Gratitude, amazement, love and purpose for the little moments in my life. It is then when I realise I have it all. I have everything. And you do too.

THANK YOU 2018 for giving me exactly what I need to take into the New Year. 2019 I am so ready and so excited for you!

Lots of Love,

J x
