A Letter to Fear

Ah, my dear friend, Fear.

You really pushed me down these last few weeks, you have held onto me so tightly I almost felt as if I were suffocating. You created so much chaos within me that I was clawing constantly to find an escape from the noise.

But it is only when I surrender to you that I truly understand you for what you are:  you are the protector, so strong on the surface; but holding within the most fragile parts of my being. The feelings of lack of worthiness. The lack of trust in myself. The small child that was taking all the weight of those who hurt me, and their actions.

Fear says: you have been without me before, and you got hurt – badly. Let me protect you from what I hold within. Let me protect you from the outside world hurting you again.

So I say, there are two things we need to look at here.

  1. What is underneath the fear? If we can get there, we can heal from it. If we truly open ourselves up to the feelings that we have been hiding from – the feelings that fear has been protecting us from – perhaps they will be free. You will be allowing stuck energy the freedom to once again flow with life, as it should be.

You are strong enough to go within. Feel what needs to be felt. Cry. Yell. Move. Show fear you are strong enough to handle what it has been protecting you from. Release.

  1. Remember, fear closes your heart. It closes your heart to life, to opportunity, to growth and to love. If your heart is closed, how will it ever truly love? How will it take in the beauty and magic that is in every single breath, every single moment, every single day? If you are allowing fear to control your life, I would like to say with certainty that you will not experience a life that utilises your full potential – a life beyond what you even thought was possible. Instead, you will live your life feeling like a hostage, a life of greys, of regret. Which life do you chose?

I thank you Fear, for protecting me when I needed it. But now, I am strong enough to hold onto life myself; to throw myself into the endless possibilities and growth. I am strong enough to know whatever comes my way has meaning and lessons to teach. Thank you, but I don’t need you anymore.

P.S. A big thank you to Gracie Balev (@graciebalev) and this weeks focus on releasing fear. You helped me stop running – you gave me no choice but to face fear head on.
